What we did:
Khalil, another experienced Van Lifer (both he and Jerome moved from Sportsmobile E350 platforms to Sprinters) and his family of 4 use their van a dozen or more times a year for all kinds of adventures up and down the coast, Death Valley, Colorado, you name it.
Their requirements included DOT seatbelts and sleeping for 4, enough power to run an induction cooktop, water kettle, a big fridge for 4 in a 4×4 144” low roof as they seriously send it off road far from facilities on their adventures.
Khalil had a rough idea of the layout he wanted, we were able to make it all fit in a way that works really well for them.
We call it the Westy of Today. First thing was to send the van to Sportsmobile for a pop top to allow some standing room as well as more bunks for sleeping.
Back at the shop we added 200AH of LiPo battery storage and a 365W panel on the pop top, 20 gal of water storage, 19 gal gray water tank under the van, a Highlander bed with secret storage and a 4 person MCB bench seat in front of the bed. In the garage is the water tank and the electrical system. The galley is on the DS with an induction cooktop, big fridge, sink and outlets. The front seats have swivels to top it off.
